Day 4 - Encounter with God

The mission of Encounter With God is to contribute to the expansion of God’s Kingdom through evangelism and discipleship of the Hispanic population living in Northglenn. Six years ago, God was calling Peruvian Pastor Jose Tello, his wife Dora, and daughters Katty and Cindy to follow His direction and move their lives and ministry from Peru to Colorado.

Over a meal in a Mexican Restaurant in February 2004, and through the mentoring of Pastor Ernesto Morones, Sam Caballero and Lazaro Chapa, God’s will was confirmed to Pastor Jose Tello. Through a partnership with the Missions Team at First Southern Baptist Northglenn, Senior Pastor John Talbert, and the Tello Family, Encounter With God was born as a church plant of First Southern Baptist Church Northglenn.

The Tello Family and their host American church faced the challenges of being faithful, having patience and maintaining perseverance in the midst of starting and growing Encounter With God. Although this work began with only the family of Pastor Jose Tello, God has been gracious and Encounter With God joyfully looks forward to celebrating six years of life in Northglenn.

Throughout these six years, God has given Encounter With God and the Tello family two very clear objectives: 1) To evangelize, disciple and train Hispanic leaders to plant more churches. They seek to continue to fulfill the Great Commission with FSBC Northglenn and the Korean and Brazilian church plants also congregating in their building 2) To bring about restoration in families though the message of Jesus Christ. Encounter With God is doing just that, with the financial assistance of FSBC Northglenn and the Colorado Missions Offering. God has enabled them to evangelize more than one hundred Hispanic families, baptize 12 people, hosted two marriage retreats and one family retreat. As a result, the marriages of 24 couples have been restored and continue to honor Christ and 15 families have begun the journey of restoration.

In 2011, Encounter With God is planning multiple retreats specifically for their men, women, and the younger generation in their church body and community. They continue to seek God’s plan for their church and invite you to join with them through your prayers and petitions before our God.

Please pray as they seek to meet the relational and spiritual needs of their Hispanic community. Pray as they seek to reproduce healthy, spiritually stable followers of Christ in their marriages and families.
