Day 2 - Heritage Baptist Church
Pine Crest Apartment Community in Colorado Springs has seen a spike in ministry due to Heritage Baptist Church and gifts from the Colorado Missions Offering. In 2009, Pine Crest management donated an apartment to Heritage Baptist Church for use as a community room. This immediately became an asset to the ministry already being done in the Pine Crest community by Gerry Beauvais, Pine Crest activities director. The community room houses a food pantry, clothes closet and a community bible study. Through the community room Heritage Baptist and Gerry Beauvais provide kitchen, bathroom and personal items as well as furniture to assist the residents of the Pine Crest community.
With the support of gifts to the 2010 Colorado Missions Offering, Heritage Baptist Church and Gerry Beauvais were able to host a community cook-out / outreach event and purchase some needed furniture for residents. Gerry Beauvais commented on the event, “There were 140 people who attended the cookout. Ron Watkins, pastor of Heritage, and several other members visited and shared with residents during the cookout.” Gerry continued, “Many of the residents came together to provide food and supplies for the cookout including ‘door prizes’ which the management gave out during the event.”
The event has sparked new interest in the outreach opportunities of the community room, as new residents have been coming for food, clothing and furniture. Along with the community cook out, Gerry and Heritage Baptist Church were able to purchase a bed for a resident that has been sleeping on an air mattress for some time, what a great ministry to meet a physical need in someone’s life. Through your gifts to the Colorado Mission Offering and other gifts and donations, the ministry in the community of Pine Crest has been able to service an increase of 10 additional families per month. Even the residents of Pine Crest have joined in, “residents are going grocery shopping and picking up extra food for the pantry, and some residents are leaving furniture for us when they leave.” Said Gerry, “ I have been doing multi-housing ministry since 1998 and this is the fastest response from residents I have ever seen. God is moving on this property faster than I ever thought possible.” “Thank you Colorado Baptists for giving to the Colorado Missions Offering so that we can minister to the Pine Crest Apartments.”
Pray that Gerry Beauvais, Heritage Baptist Church and their partners will continue to reach the residents of the Pine Crest Community by meeting their physical and spiritual needs. Pray that the management and owners of Pine Crest will continue to see the community room, community events and ministry of Gerry Beauvais and Heritage Baptist Church as a benefit to their community and that it will increase within the multi-housing communities across Colorado.
