Leading Your Church to Align With God Through Intentional Corporate Prayer

A Guide to Assist the Local Pastor

Today is an in-between time for the church, between the past when the church was firmly established in Christendom, and an unclear future of the church.  Today is a time for redefinition; it is a time for the church to listen to its stories, to talk about its direction and identity, and to patiently discern the shape of its future life and ministry.  Yet people are weary from church business as usual, from church gatherings that do not connect with the deeper meanings of their life and faith” (Danny E. Morris and Charles M. Olsen, Discerning God’s Will Together: A Spiritual Practice for the Church, The Alban Institute, 1997, p. 12).    

Unfortunately, just as our economy seems uncertain, some churches are verbalizing, behaving, and projecting in a manner indicating an unclear future of the church.  Furthermore, some pastors and members when considering the state of their own personal lives and that of the local church are asking, “Is this really all there is?”
