Colorado Baptists honor the contributions and work of Nicy Murphy with the release of “Mountain Grandeur,” the first in a series of four paintings depicting Ms. Murphy's vision for missions in Colorado.

At the 2011 Annual Meeting, Colorado Baptists presented Nicy Murphy with a reproduction of Mountain Grandeur, the first painting in a series of four that will depict Ms. Murphy’s vision of missions in Colorado.

In 1975, the Colorado Baptist General Convention Executive Board moved to name the Colorado Missions Offering in honor of Nicy Murphy and her service to the State of Colorado.

This year Nicy Murphy celebrated her 100th birthday.

Jim Misloski, CBGC State Director of Missions, East commented, “It is always important to celebrate when God uses people like Nicy to accomplish his purposes in places like Colorado. This was a year to celebrate.”

As a part of this celebration, Colorado Baptists commissioned local artist Richard Marks to create a series of four paintings, to be released over the next four years. Unveiled at this year’s annual meeting was his initial work, Mountain Grandeur, inspired by the pen of Ms. Murphy’.

“Colorado Missions is ministering to those… who live in the midst of the mountain grandeur, but who never lift their ‘eyes unto the hills’ from whence their help might come.”

Nicy Murphy was unable to travel to Colorado. However, her niece, Anita Hayes, and nephew, Jim Murphy, were on hand alongside Richard Marks, to accept this gift from Colorado Baptists.

Said Mr. Misloski, “We want to celebrate what God did through Nicy and inspire others to be a part of what God would want to do through their lives.”
