Keith Wong sees ministry to Chinese living in Colorado as similar to the World War II soldiers tasked with finding Private Ryan in the fictional war movie. "It's a search and rescue mission," he said. "We do have to go out and search for them."
Wong and his wife Angelique Kwok are Chinese immigrants themselves. They direct the English as a Second Language (ESL) ministry at Garden Ranch Baptist Church aimed at Chinese workers. Garden Ranch also has ESL classes for Russians directed by Vern Peterson and Latino students led by Carmen Sydnor.
It is our pleasure to announce Claudean Boatman as the new Colorado Literacy Missions State Coordinator. Her involvement in Literacy Missions began in 1991 when she took a Home Mission Board (now the North American Mission Board) workshop training to teach adults to read better. Later she learned to train local church volunteers to begin Adult Reading and Writing Ministries. Claudean has been a National Literacy Missions trainer for the North American Mission Board since the mid-1990s. She is also currently serving as the Tutoring Children and Youth Ministry director of Hillside Baptist Church in Greeley.
