More than 300 participants, including three Colorado Baptists gathered at First Baptist Concord, Tennessee to attend the three-day South Asia Summit. Pastor Rick Lewis of Ken Caryl Church as well as Owen and Ruth Ann Smith were among those three hundred. Lewis serves as Colorado Baptists’ Representative on the International Mission Board and the Smiths are Missions Mobilization Advocates for Colorado.
The summit’s purpose was to build partnerships focused on this region, rich in cultural heritage and greatly in need of hearing the message of hope in Christ.
“The challenges are huge…and that’s why you’re here with us – to partner with us in reaching the South Asians around the world,” Todd Lafferty, International Mission Board global strategist for South Asian peoples, said.
It was a varied group who was invited to attend. Pastors, business leaders, secretaries and medical personnel came together to brainstorm strategies for reaching South Asians with the Gospel. And it will take multiple groups and strategies to accomplish the monumental task.
Kyle Yarwood, an IMB representative in South Asia, encouraged the group, “It’s not about what a handful of missionaries can do. It’s about what all of us can do.” Read more
