Each year on the first Sunday in October a time of prayer for the peace of Jerusalem is set aside. This year that day falls on October 3rd. Psalm 122:6 instructs us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. You and your church can join people all over the world taking part in this day of prayer. For more information, visit www.daytopray.org.

Pastor Kevin Carrothers of Rochester FBC in Rochester, IL composed the following "SO THAT" 31 days of prayers for the church.  Following the prayers for each day are the Scriptural foundations for each prayer.  Use them to strengthen your church.

Day 1  O Lord, You are the Sovereign of all things.
You are the Creator and Sustainer
I confess we have sinned and fallen short of Your glorious holiness.
I pray that You will forgive us our corporate and personal sins.

Think of the military as an unreached people group, with all the distinctive characteristics of a tribe … their own customs & traditions, dialect, “native dress”, type of work, and expectations.   It’s easy to be misunderstood, to be isolated from the civilian community around them.  (Remember that their families are also part of the military community, and try to imagine what it’s like for the Reserves and National Guard, part-time military who live in both worlds in between deployments.) 

While most of Colorado lives a fairly normal life, for many military these days there is no “normal”.  If they’re not deployed, they’re recovering and trying to re-integrate with family after a deployment or preparing for the next one.  Think of the stress!  Read more

Prayer is a personal connection to God. Think of all the ways we can talk to God through prayer: standing, kneeling, walking, pacing, sitting, eyes closed, eyes opened, hands folded or hands stretched to the sky.
