The ministries of Christian Challenge are the collegiate arm of the Colorado Baptist General Convention. These campuses and directors are partners to help Colorado students move from youth to future leaders in the church. As such, please be sure to pass on the names of any students coming to these campuses for follow-up and encourage them to contact the directors listed below before they arrive so they can make a smooth transition. Current stats show that we are loosing 80% in this transition and it will only be together that we narrow the gap. Here is the list of campuses and directors currently in Colorado:

Max Barnett serves as the State Collegiate Ministry Team Associate and is also available to contact at maxbarnett@gmail.com. Read more

Too many times we hear the Rumor Mill spew could be/would be stories about todays young pop stars, and the "Christian" rumor mill is no exception.  "J" was rejected by (insert chrsitian record label) because she was too curvy.  "B's" father, a baptists deacon, wanted her to do christian music becasue of the income stream but got a better deal in the secular relm.  "M" sold out to secular music because the pressure to say 'God' more in his songs was too great.  My favorite is this- "Well if they were really "Christians" they would be singing "Christian" music (as if there is such a thing).  But what of those artists that are true-to-life followers of Christ and make it in the "secular" music industry?  Life House and the Fray have drawn some attention for thier witness and stand in the world of popular music and being devoted followers of Christ, but have you ever thought of....the Jonas Brothers? Latest research from the US found a strong link between teenagers own weight and that of their closest peers. A UK obesity expert said the link is likely to be casual and down to catching bad habits.

The journal Economics and Human Biology work adds weight to the notion of imitative obesity - mimicking of friends who pile on the pounds. It looked at data on nearly 5,000 teenagers, many of whom were later followed up after two-year interval. From this the researchers found friendships between the adolescents tended to cluster according to weight, meaning overweight children tended to hang out together. When they looked at weight changes over time, they found having a fat friend could lead to weight gain for a child.

"You do not stop seeing people because they are fat, but you might be able to influence them into leading a healthier lifestyle by going for a walk rather than playing computer games," he said. A spokeswoman from Weight Concern said: "We do learn from our peers and eat with our friends, so these children may be picking up unhealthy habits.  READ THE FULL ARTICLE Read more

Spirituality, not religion, makes kids happy...Relationships more vital to tweens' emotional health than going to church

Think Middle School ministry is just a necessary bridge to gap the awkward growth from 'kids' to youth?  Think again. The link between spirituality and happiness is pretty well-established for teens and adults. More spirituality brings more happiness. Now a study has reached into the younger set, finding the same link in "tweens" and in kids in middle childhood.

The Lockbox Theory’s Implications for Your Students

As a youth worker, you have probably noticed that teenagers live the seasons of the year differently than the rest of the population.  Whereas the rest of the United States marks the year with fall, winter, summer and spring-or perhaps Labor Day, New Year’s, Tax Day, Memorial Day, and the end of the fiscal year-those in high school use other markers to commemorate the passing year.  Read more

The new face of giving

The United States long has been a nation of givers, but a new generation is transforming the way we do good. Millennials and Generation Xers, especially those 20- and 30-somethings starting careers, may not have the bucks to be major donors, but they are finding ways to help others and prompting big changes in the way charities raise money.

Despite Benefits, Few Americans Have Experienced Short-Term Mission Trips

A new study from The Barna Group shows that most of the people who embark on service adventures describe the trips as life-changing. In fact, three-quarters of trip-goers report that the experience changed their life in some way. Yet the research also shows that few adults - including a small percentage of Christians - have ever gone on a short-term service trip.
