Ambitions

Ambitions . . . they keep you going, but they can go bad. Several years ago I was skimming the newspaper and my eyes caught a headline, AMBITION TOO OFTEN OUTSTRIPS EXECUTION. I have to be honest and say that I did not read any further and I didn’t get the author’s name because the title hit me between the eyes. In fact, I stopped immediately, grabbed the closest pair of scissors and cut out that headline and taped it to my desk, just over my laptop. As I am writing this blog, I am looking at the slightly faded and brittle news clipping that has saved my credibility more than once. Read more

Girls’ Ministry

ShareThis

There’s a growing trend of churches starting girls’ ministry due to the overwhelming need to speak into the lives of young ladies needing guidance through the unique problems of womanhood.

Pam Gibbs, Lifeway Girls’ Ministry Specialist, recently shared at Define weekend, about the needs of girls and how churches can effectively reach them. “Many of you are already doing a girls’ ministry. Anytime you are intentional about meeting the needs of teen girls, that’s girls’ ministry.”

She explained that a girls’ ministry is a part of the church’s ministry to not only the girls, but to parents and leaders as well. Ministry can be incorporated anywhere girls are and should involve discipleship, in addition to, just fun. Read more

Sowing and Reaping in Northeastern Colorado

Recently, I was invited to speak at a women’s ministry meeting at Arapahoe Road Baptist Church. The theme for our meeting was: “Sowing and Reaping in northeastern Colorado”. As I was preparing for my missions presentation, the Lord led me to John 4:34-37: “My food, said Jesus, is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then the harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the reaper draws his wages, even now he harvests the crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. Read more

Tips From The Trenches

There’s no greater wisdom gained than by reading God’s Word. However, the next best thing is gaining wisdom from seasoned servants. We asked several Colorado Women Ministry Leaders for their top tip on leadership and here’s what they said:

“Send cards out to the women of the church to let them know that someone is thinking of them."  Kaye Simon, Lochwood Christian Fellowship in Lakewood

“Get a great team of volunteers of varied ages and talents and PRAY about everything.” Marcy Stoddard, Mississippi Avenue, Aurora

“Get your job description in writing.” Jenny E. Schappaugh, Trinity Baptist Church Read more

Ministry Charades  Read more

Remember playing charades? My husband and I were playing charades with a group of friends one night. As we separated women against men, “the girls” were eager for a victory. With each card, we hopelessly waved our arms and acted out creatures and movie titles. Until our brains clicked, it seemed like a weird tribal dance more than a theatrical display. Yet, sometimes, that’s what women’s ministry feels like. We are trying to figure out what will minister to women in our church.

Women in Your Church Need You

I was so pumped! Beth Moore was coming to Colorado Springs and the thought of 8500 women squeezing into the World Arena seemed unimaginable just 9 months earlier, but it became reality in May 2008. The power of the Word, of prayer and of the Holy Spirit was evident. I walked away from my assignment as City Coordinator fully ecstatic at what God had done.  Read more

Creating a Prayer Experience

ShareThis

Prayer is a personal connection to God. Think of all the ways we can talk to God through prayer: standing, kneeling, walking, pacing, sitting, eyes closed, eyes opened, hands folded or hands stretched to the sky. There is no wrong way as long as you are whole-hearted seeking to worship, speak and listen to the Lord.

A unique way to create a prayer experience is setting up stations for people to visit. Each station can be designed with a simple direction and the tools needed. Here’s a few simple tips: Read more
