Hello Colorado Baptists,
As some of you are already aware, the Guidepost report was released last evening. This report was the conclusion of Guidepost’s year-long investigation on sexual abuse allegations and the treatment of sexual abuse reports by the Executive Committee of the SBC between January 1, 2000, and June 14, 2021. The report not only reveals sexual abuse allegations against prominent SBC leaders, but also reveals many instances of the discrediting and vilifying of victims who demonstrated the courage to report their abuse.
I cannot fully express the emotion I am feeling over this report. I am sickened, saddened, angry and extremely disturbed that these things have taken place in our denomination. I am grieved for the numerous victims who have not only experienced this violation, but the shameful way they were dismissed when they brought this to light.
I want you to know your Executive Board was already scheduled to meet today and tomorrow (May 23-24) and on their agenda is a Sexual Abuse Protocol which was drafted in April. We are working diligently to put protocols into place as a convention and to provide resources to our churches so we may do everything within our power to be proactive, transparent, and spare others from this hurt within our state.
We covet your prayers and are grateful for your partnership in our Father’s Kingdom!

Hello Colorado Baptists,
I wanted to follow up with more information as our Executive Board has taken action on further developing protocols regarding sexual abuse.
Today, May 24, 2022, the Executive Board of the Colorado Baptist General Convention has voted to put together a six-member taskforce consisting of 3 women and 3 men to create policies and procedures for transparently responding to, and investigating, any sexual abuse allegations that may arise against any CBGC staff or board members. These policies and procedures will represent three specific areas: Preparation for Prevention; Responding to Allegations; and Caring for Victims and their Families.
Not only will these procedures become CBGC policy once they are fully developed, but they will also be made available to all our churches along with supporting resources and training. I want ALL Colorado Baptists to know that the issue of sexual abuse is being taken seriously. Sexual abuse has no place and will not be tolerated! Together, we will make a difference!
